Volleyball Recap: Center Grove Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

There's no place like home for Center Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against the Tri-West Hendricks Bruins by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Center Grove walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21.

Skylyr Merriman was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had ten digs and five aces. Those five aces gave her a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Center Grove was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 11 consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Tri-West Hendricks saw an underclassman step up: freshman Julia Middleton had five digs and four aces. Middleton has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Finley Dakin, who had eight digs and four assists.

Center Grove's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-9. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-12 record this season.

Center Grove and Tri-West Hendricks are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. After both having extra time off, the Trojans and Decatur Central will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they will take on Guerin Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
