Montebello is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Claremont is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Montebello barely beat Mark Keppel the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Montebello's pitcher stepped up to hand Mark Keppel a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The Oilers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
Montebello got a great performance from Isaac Solorzano as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Solorzano has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Michael Rios was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Cervantes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Montebello was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Claremont fell victim to Bonita and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 12-0 to the Bearcats. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Montebello's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Claremont, they now have a losing record of 5-6-1.
Claremont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montebello hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .430. It's a different story for Claremont, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Montebello's hitters?
Montebello came out on top in a nail-biter against Claremont when the teams last played back in February of 2019, sneaking past 10-8. Does Montebello have another victory up their sleeve, or will Claremont turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
