Softball Recap: St. Bernard Saints vs. Plainfield Panthers

After flying high against Griswold on Tuesday, St. Bernard came back down to earth. The Saints fell just short of the Plainfield Panthers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in April.

Anabelle Wenzel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Wenzel wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Milani Hayer, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
