Football Recap: Winchester Community Skates Past Union City with Ease

Winchester Community had won three straight on the road, but on Friday they bumped up to 8-1 to make it four. They breezed past the Union City Indians to the tune of 61-28. The result was nothing new for the Golden Falcons, who have now won five matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.

Aidan Weatherhead produced another solid performance rushing for 119 yards and four scores on only 14 carries, while also picking up 43 receiving yards and one TD. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in October of 2024. Caleb Hummel was another key player, rushing for 112 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Winchester Community was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 224 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Winchester Community, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Weatherhead, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

As for Union City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Winchester Community is ranked 129th).

Union City's loss came despite strong showings from D'Shaun Ware and Jayson Connor. Ware gained 230 total yards and four touchdowns, while Connor threw for 304 yards and three TDs. Connor's passing game has become a key predictor of the Indians' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-6 otherwise.

Winchester Community wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 32-0 loss against Lapel on the 24th. As for Union City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 31-13 defeat against Hagerstown on the 24th.
