Volleyball Recap: Animas Takes a Loss

After flying high against Carrizozo on Thursday, Animas came back down to earth. The Panthers came up short against the Reserve Mountaineers on Friday, falling 3-0. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mountaineers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-12, 25-9.

Despite the loss, Animas saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ayslee Davenport had 16 digs and two assists. Davenport is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Animas' defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Reserve, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Animas and Hatch Valley will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Reserve, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Quemado at 5:00 p.m. on the 16th.
