Foothill hasn't had much luck against West Campus recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will challenge the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Foothill took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Valley with a sharp 25-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Mercede Averett was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one triple. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Foothill got a massive performance out of Julianne Esquibel, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Esquibel is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Collier, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Foothill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, West Campus had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 28-27 W against the Panthers. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Alyssa Christensen was a standout: she got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Milana Hess, who went 2-for-6 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs.
Foothill's record now sits at 8-4. As for West Campus, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
West Campus' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Foothill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for West Campus, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Foothill's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Foothill beat West Campus 17-14 in their previous meeting on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
