Softball Recap: Moody Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Chelsea

On Thursday, Moody faced Chelsea in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Moody Blue Devils took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chelsea Hornets. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by exactly four runs.

Kendall Trimm and Kennedy Hockman did some serious damage despite the final result: Trimm went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Hockman went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Hockman a new career-high in doubles. Emma Kile also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Moody has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. The win (which was Chelsea's third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Coming up, Moody will look to defend their home field on March 13th against St. Clair County at 4:30 p.m. As for Chelsea, they will be taking part in a tournament against Jasper at 2:45 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Jasper has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
