Basketball Recap: Weld Central Falls Short of Alamosa in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Weld Central can now relate to. They fell 41-29 to the Alamosa Mean Moose on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Mean Moose are ranked 74th).

Despite the loss, Weld Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isabel Weisenborn went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Hopkins also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebound of the season.

Alamosa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Morgan Ortega led the charge by putting up 12 points. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Rothermich, who posted eight points and three steals.

Weld Central has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. Alamosa has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Weld Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Alamosa, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 46-41 victory against Kent Denver on the 8th.
