Baseball Game Preview: Botkins Trojans vs. Fairlawn Jets

The Botkins Trojans will square off against the Fairlawn Jets at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Botkins will be strutting in after a victory while Fairlawn will be coming in after a loss.

Botkins is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Spencerville 3-1. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bearcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Jay Wildermuth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Botkins is 3-1 when Wildermuth allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Botkins' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Levi Frey, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Will Monnin was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Fairlawn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They lost 7-1 to Houston. Jets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Wildcats since on Monday.

Botkins' victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Fairlawn, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Botkins took their win against Fairlawn in their previous meeting on April 12th by a conclusive 14-0 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
