The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will be taking part in a tournament against the Faith Christian Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (SouthWest Edgecombe 3.2, Faith Christian 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
SouthWest Edgecombe barely beat Washington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Pam Pack on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Jaelyn McLean made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Logan Bell was excellent, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Tyson Ayers was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
SouthWest Edgecombe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only posted an OBP of .321.
Meanwhile, Faith Christian suffered their closest loss since April 10, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Clayton by a score of 5-3.
Tanner Trevathan was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
The win made it two in a row for SouthWest Edgecombe and bumps their season record up to 12-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Faith Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. SouthWest Edgecombe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Faith Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
SouthWest Edgecombe beat Faith Christian 12-9 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
