Softball Recap: Mesa Grande Academy Starts off Right with Win over Loma Linda Academy

Mesa Grande Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the Loma Linda Academy Roadrunners 3-2 on Monday. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 16-3 win the Roadrunners walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Melody Bender made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in earned runs. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brityn Chase, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2.

This is the second loss in a row for Loma Linda Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mesa Grande Academy will face off against Public Safety Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Public Safety Academy's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Loma Linda Academy, they will square off against Saddleback at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Saddleback: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Loma Linda Academy has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
