Basketball Recap: Tyrone Washam's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastside over Newark Tech

If Eastside was riding high fresh off their 74-43 takedown of Seneca last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eastside Tigers received a blow on Sunday as they fell 84-69 to the Newark Tech Terries. Even though they lost, the Tigers' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyrone Washam, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven assists and four steals. Washam is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Bryce Hillman was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Even though they lost, Eastside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Eastside has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Newark Tech, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastside will face off against Camden Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newark Tech, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Dumont at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
