The Collegiate Dutchmen will square off against the Dalton Tigers at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Collegiate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Collegiate beat St. Ann's 8-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dutchmen.
Collegiate got a great performance from Alex Sabat as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Harris Roessner was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Deblasi, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Dalton entered their tilt with Fieldston on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Eagles. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Eagles on their field since May 8, 2019.
Jackson Herzog was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miles Gumbs, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sam Klein, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Dalton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Collegiate, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.
Dalton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Collegiate hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Dalton, though, as they've only averaged .212. Will they be able to contain Collegiate's hitters?
Everything went Collegiate's way against Dalton when the teams last played on April 4th, as Collegiate made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Dutchmen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
