Volleyball Recap: Maumee Panthers vs. Wauseon Indians

Maumee unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Wauseon Indians by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Maumee wouldn't go down easily and took Wauseon into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-25, 15-8.

Despite the defeat, Maumee had strong showings from Mia Mitchell, who had ten digs and four aces, and Taryn Pyle, who had 14 digs.

Wauseon was led to victory by Anaya Gonzales and Halle Fogarty. Gonzales had 15 digs and four aces, while Fogarty had ten digs and two assists.

Coming up, Maumee will face off against Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wauseon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Napoleon on the 18th.
