Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. Weslaco Panthers

Los Fresnos and Weslaco are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Los Fresnos Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Weslaco Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Los Fresnos has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 591 points over their last eight matchups.

Even though Rivera scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, Los Fresnos still came out on top. Los Fresnos took their matchup against Rivera 62-55.

Jj Salazar was his usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Andrew Munoz was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, Weslaco had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Harlingen with a 51-46 victory on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Weslaco's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 788th, while Harlingen is ranked 158th).

Los Fresnos is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. As for Weslaco, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-16.

Los Fresnos came up short against Weslaco in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 58-54. Can Los Fresnos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
