Softball Recap: DeKalb Takes a Loss

After flying high against New Haven on Monday, DeKalb came back down to earth. The Barons fell just short of the East Noble Knights by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The Barons haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Summer Haverstock spent all 13 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, Serena Wineland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Storck, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.

DeKalb's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for East Noble, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. DeKalb will welcome Homestead at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Barons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for East Noble, they will be playing at home against Fort Wayne Northrop at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
