Baseball Recap: Highland Park Takes a Loss

Highland Park dropped their record down to 22-7-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Niles West Wolves by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Giants have lost by just one run.

As for Niles West, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For Niles West's part, Shaylen Patel looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Patel has posted over his last four games.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Christian Guzman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Lucas Som was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

While Highland Park had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
