Preview: Calvert Cavaliers vs. Northern Patriots
Calvert is 2-7 against Northern since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Calvert Cavaliers will be playing at home against the Northern Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Calvert is ranked 32nd, while Northern is ranked 48th).
Last Friday, Calvert got themselves on the board against Great Mills, but Great Mills never followed suit. They walked away with a 10-0 victory over the Hornets. That's two games straight that Calvert has won by exactly ten points.
The team won by holding Great Mills to a paltry 46 rushing yards and 75 passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Calvert's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was King Jones and his 3.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Northern pushed their score all the way to 39 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 53-39 bruising from Patuxent.
Calvert's win bumped their season record to 6-1 while Northern's loss dropped theirs to 5-2.
Calvert came up short against Northern in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 35-28. Will Calvert have more luck at home instead of on the road?
