Softball Recap: Eastern Wayne Comes Up Short

After flying high against North Pitt last Thursday, Eastern Wayne came back down to earth. The Warriors fell just short of the Washington Pam Pack by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Warriors have suffered since March 18th.

Mallory Reed was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 23 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Lyric Hagens made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

Eastern Wayne now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-14 record this season.

Eastern Wayne will welcome West Craven at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Washington, they will face off against North Pitt at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.89 runs per game on average), something the Pam Pack will no doubt try to take advantage of.
