The Trumann Wildcats will venture away from home to face off against the Bay Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Trumann hasn't scored more than two runs for six games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Southside hit Trumann with a 12-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats came up short against the Southerners, falling 17-2.
Trumann saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Hammons, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. That double was Hammons' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Bay can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Piggott, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yellowjackets have posted since April 23, 2024.
Jaden Dacus was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kaden Hartley was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Walters, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Trumann's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Bay, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Trumann has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Trumann's way against Bay when the teams last played back in March, as Trumann made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
