Basketball Recap: Pathway Christian Comes Up Short

Pathway Christian extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 2-14. They were beaten by the Morning Star Academy Mustangs 64-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Mustangs since January 30, 2024.

Pathway Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ian Shetler, who posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Callan Damschen, who earned eight points.

As for Morning Star Academy, the win got them back to even at 8-8. The game marked their most dominant victory of the season.

Morning Star Academy was led to victory by Hudson Smith and David Martin. Smith dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards, while Martin shot 54% from the field to rack up 14 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The Mustangs are 3-1 when Smith posts ten or more rebounds, but 5-7 otherwise. Wyatt Ray was another key player, going 6-for-11 on his way to 16 points.

Coming up, Pathway Christian and Galesburg Christian will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. The Panthers will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.78 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Morning Star Academy, they will welcome Coram Deo Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
