Softball Recap: Aberdeen Comes Up Short

Aberdeen had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it 13. They came up short against Patterson Mill, falling 17-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 21-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Patterson Mill, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 15-1. The result was nothing new for Patterson Mill, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Patterson Mill's part, Lily Baldwin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Baldwin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mackenzie Knight and Audrey March did most of the damage at the plate: Knight got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while March got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave Knight a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Malenfant, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

While Aberdeen had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
