Softball Game Preview: Fairborn Skyhawks vs. Sidney Yellowjackets

The Fairborn Skyhawks will head out to face off against the Sidney Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fairborn has 11 straight victories, Sidney has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Fairborn took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Sidney, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Skyhawks had just enough and edged out the Yellowjackets 6-5 on Friday. Six seems to be a good number for the Skyhawks as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Kalleigh Offill was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up four earned runs off only one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillee Walters, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Sidney's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Fairborn, their record now sits at 14-5.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fairborn has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. However, it's not like Sidney struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
