Baseball Recap: Maine Central Institute Huskies vs. Mount View Mustangs
Maine Central Institute had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it eight. They lost 14-3 to the Mount View Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on May 3rd.
Caleb Kennedy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
As for Mount View, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.
On Mount View's side, Kaden Bradeen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Bradeen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Stuart Knowlton was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Will Gibbs was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Looking ahead, Maine Central Institute will challenge Waterville at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount View, they are taking a road trip to take on Belfast at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
