The Hanover-Horton Comets are taking a road trip to square off against the Columbia Central Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Columbia Central's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Hanover-Horton hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Comets' pitcher stepped up to hand Manchester a 6-0 shutout on Monday.
Alexyn DuBois was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amanda Ley, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Haley Applegate also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Columbia Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Michigan Center on Monday.
Like Hanover-Horton, Columbia Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Hailey Wetherby. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Wetherby was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Gabby Gaydosh was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Rylee Knapp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Hanover-Horton pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Columbia Central, their record is now 12-2.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hanover-Horton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Columbia Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hanover-Horton took their win against Columbia Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
