Baseball Recap: Clements Victorious

Clements took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Covenant Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Eagles on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Colts have posted against the Eagles since March 3, 2018.

Braxton Sims spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Clements' success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Grayson Borden was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Clements is undefeated when Borden posts two or more runs, but 8-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Albriton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.

The win got Clements back to even at 13-13. As for Covenant Christian, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-14.

Clements does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Covenant Christian, they will take on Lynn at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
