Basketball Game Preview: San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy Pirates vs. Utopia Buffaloes

The San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy Pirates and the Utopia Buffaloes will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Utopia likes a good challenge.

San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy saw some tournament action on Thursday. They blew past Nueces Canyon 84-27. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 29 points or more this season.

San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy found their leader in sophomore Ryan Hayes, who went 14 of 25 on his way to 33 points and six steals. With that strong performance, Hayes is now averaging an impressive 16.7 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Dwayne Newton, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Utopia was able to grind out a solid victory over Knippa on Thursday, taking the game 56-46. Given the Buffaloes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while the Crushers are ranked 1065th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

San Antonio S.T.E.A.M. Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Utopia, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
