Volleyball Recap: Wimberley Texans vs. Johnson Jaguars
Wimberley unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Johnson Jaguars by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Texans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Wimberley wouldn't go down easily and took Johnson into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Addison Parks paced Wimberley's offense, picking up 13 kills. Parks got some help from Skylar Herring and her 26 assists. Finally, Mariah McCoy kept Wimberley's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.
Johnson had a senior duo take command as Rileigh Butler had 23 digs and six assists and Ada Farrar had 14 digs. Butler is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last seven games she's played dating back to last season.
Johnson's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
Wimberley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 victory against Nixon on the 14th. As for Johnson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Montwood on the 15th.
