Baseball Recap: Vallejo Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

There's no place like home for Vallejo, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They never let the Richmond Oilers get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Redhawks as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Jose Flores made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Vallejo is 2-1 when Flores posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on David Bernstine III, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Trumel Hugley was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Vallejo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Vallejo's record now sits at 6-11. As for Richmond, they are on a 28-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-26.

Coming up, Vallejo will venture away from home to challenge St. Patrick-St. Vincent at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Richmond does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
