Basketball Recap: Hanover Takes a Loss

Hanover has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Highland Springs Springers. The Hawks were probably out for revenge after losing 58-47 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leading Highland Springs to victory were Kaelyn Taylor and Samaya Brown. Taylor posted 17 points, while Brown put up 12 points. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Amirah Collins, who earned eight points.

Hanover's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Highland Springs, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Hanover and Highland Springs should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Hanover will face off against Patrick Henry at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 212 places (98 vs. 310). Similarly, Highland Springs (ranked 54th) will meet Varina (ranked 306th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
