Recap: Sherman Bearcats vs. Lone Star Rangers
The Sherman Bearcats''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Lone Star at home and fell 41-10. Sherman was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-10.
Caleb Orr threw for 148 yards on 12 of 23 attempts. Mikah Hunt was his top target, picking up 129 receiving yards. On the ground, Gerkavian Hughes rushed for 36 yards.
Lone Star was led to victory by Collin Blackstock and Bryson Jones. Blackstock threw for 282 yards and four touchdowns, while Jones picked up 151 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Jones hasn't dropped below 100 receiving yards for four straight games. Isaiah Massey and his 109 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Lone Star's win.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sherman to a paltry 203 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lone Star's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Easton Pulliam and Will Bynum who racked up four sacks between them.
Sherman has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Lone Star, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Sherman will head out on the road to face off against Wakeland on Friday. Wakeland presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sherman in Texas (Wakeland is ranked 129th, while Sherman is ranked 536th). As for Lone Star, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Frisco at 7:00 p.m. Frisco is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
