Basketball Recap: Webster County Comes Up Short

Webster County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Muhlenberg County Mustangs. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.

Muhlenberg County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Wilkins out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brinly Sparks, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points and six steals.

Webster County's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Muhlenberg County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-12.

Webster County and Muhlenberg County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. Webster County will face off against Henderson County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 143 places (150 vs. 7). Meanwhile, Muhlenberg County (ranked 215th) will meet Edmonson County (ranked 103rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
