Yuma Catholic has gone a perfect 9-0 against Odyssey Institute recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Shamrocks will venture away from home to take on the Minotaur at 3:45 p.m. Yuma Catholic will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Yuma Catholic's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Parker with a sharp 12-0 victory. Considering the Shamrocks have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Cherish Trujillo, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Parker off the board. Trujillo has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mailyn Milan and Mikaela Gonzales did most of the damage at the plate: Milan scored three runs while going 1-for-3, while Gonzales scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Faith Donley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Yuma Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Odyssey Institute was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They lost 13-2 to ALA - West Foothills. The loss continues a trend for the Minotaur in their meetings with the Guardians: they've now lost five in a row.
Odyssey Institute saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maya Carmouche, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Yuma Catholic pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Odyssey Institute, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Yuma Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .407. However, it's not like Odyssey Institute struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Yuma Catholic's way against Odyssey Institute in their previous meeting back in March, as Yuma Catholic made off with an 18-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Shamrocks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
