Recap: Horizon Hawks vs. Monarch Coyotes
The Horizon Hawks came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 61-57 W over Monarch. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Horizon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ella Waufle led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Waufle has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Ives, who scored 12 points along with nine assists and two steals.
Despite the loss, Monarch saw an underclassman step up: Sienna Williams dropped a triple-double on 18 points, 11 rebounds, and ten assists. That's the first time this season that Williams posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Hayley Luther, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Monarch were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Horizon's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Monarch, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Horizon will head out on the road to square off against Fossil Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monarch, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Broomfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Broomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday.
