Baseball Recap: The First Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

The First Academy pushed their score to nine the last time they played Florence, but on Thursday they couldn't quite do it again. The First Academy Royals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Florence Falcons. The three-run effort marked the Royals' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The First Academy got a great performance from Thomas Achey as he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Achey has posted since back in February of 2024.

At the plate, The First Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erick Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The win (which was The First Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs over those games. As for Florence, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The First Academy will host Trinity Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The First Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Florence, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Decatur at 4:30 p.m.
