Softball Recap: Westville's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Westville extended their postseason success on Friday against Morgan Township. They had just enough and edged out the Cherokees 5-4. Five seems to be a good number for the Blackhawks as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Kierstin Vargas spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Westville let Kiersten Vaughan and Miranda Sparks run wild. Vaughan went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Sparks went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Sparks has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lily Green, who went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Westville, bringing their record up to 19-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan Township, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.

As of now, neither Westville nor Morgan Township have any future games scheduled.
