Football Game Preview: Carter-Riverside Eagles vs. Springtown Porcupines + How To Watch

The Carter-Riverside Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Springtown Porcupines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carter-Riverside has given up an average of 46 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Carter-Riverside took a blow against Decatur, falling 68-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which Carter-Riverside was not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Springtown put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Southwest to the tune of 49-20. Given the Porcupines' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Raiders are ranked 676th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carter-Riverside better keep an eye on Kaine Hill. He was instrumental in Springtown's win, throwing for 168 yards and three TDs on only 15 passes, while also rushing for 55 yards and one touchdown. Christian Mendoza also helped with two scores in total.

One reason for the win was Springtown's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Luis Lazcano and Kasen Beaman, who racked up all five sacks between them. Beaman also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 16. Another thorn in Southwest's side was Rome Ewell, who made 19 total tackles.

Carter-Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Springtown, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Carter-Riverside has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 280.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Springtown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 185.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Carter-Riverside was dealt a bruising 58-0 defeat at the hands of Springtown in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hill, who threw for 217 yards and six TDs while completing 80% of his passes.
