Gold Beach led 2A Special District 1 in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Glide. Michael Romsa ran for 110 yards and caught one passes for 51 yards in the win.
The Panthers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Colton Pearson chipped in 159 yards. Dennis Dykstra helped Gold Beach's passing attack out by catching one ball for seven yards.
CJ Maxwell put up the best numbers through the air as Gold Beach bested the Wildcats. He finished with three completions for 63 yards.
Kevin Swift's team's Maxwell and Dustin Carter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Maxwell has thrown for 456 yards this season, while Carter, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 13 catches for 182 yards. Bonanza's Adan Madera leads the league in rushing yards with 632.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Panthers take on Myrtle Point. As it stands, Gold Beach is in second, while the Bobcats are in fifth.
The Panthers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,734 from 8,865. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 48-6 victory over Glide last week.
