Baseball Game Preview: Berea-Midpark Titans vs. Avon Eagles

The Berea-Midpark Titans will square off against the Avon Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Berea-Midpark's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Olmsted Falls. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The result came thanks to Danny Bowser's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Berea-Midpark is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Avon posted their closest win since April 9th on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Keystone 1-0. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Not much got past Luke Holtzman, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Keystone off the board. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Holtzman.

On the hitting side, Avon's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ian Cain, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Avon's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Berea-Midpark, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.

Berea-Midpark came out on top in a nail-biter against Avon when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
