Softball Recap: Utica Find Success

Utica won the last time they faced Fraser and things went their way on Thursday too. The Chieftains came out on top against the Ramblers by a score of 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chieftains.

Violet Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rachel Durecki, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Condon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Utica now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Fraser, their record now sits at 9-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Utica will square off against Adams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fraser, they will challenge Chippewa Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Ramblers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Big Reds have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
