The Lakeview Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Girard Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Lakeview made easy work of Struthers and carried off a 9-2 win.
Nicolas Aho made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Aho was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Eli Gough was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jacob Shaker, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Lakeview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Girard posted their closest victory since April 20, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Jefferson Area. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.
Camron Herrick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Girard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Phiilips, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Phiilips is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Evan Tuttle also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Lakeview now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Girard, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Girard's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lakeview has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. It's a different story for Girard, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Lakeview's hitters?
Lakeview skirted past Girard 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
