Basketball Recap: Wiley Comes Up Short

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Wednesday. Wiley came up short against Flagler, falling 52-30. Wiley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Wiley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lexie Lubbers dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Lubbers a new career-high in blocks (two). Hailey Pearson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Flagler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rylie Berry led the charge by dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. Berry is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydnie Berry, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Wiley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Flagler, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Wiley has already played their next contest, a 35-33 win against Rocky Ford on the 13th. As for Flagler, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-43 victory against Bethune on the 14th.
