Basketball Recap: Ponderosa Comes Up Short

Ponderosa was the 57-54 winner over Heritage when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ponderosa Mustangs took a blow against the Heritage Eagles on Friday, falling 82-48. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-18.

Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trystan Rangel, who went 8-for-12 on his way to 20 points. With that strong performance, Rangel is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Charlie Gilloth, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 11 points in addition to eight blocks and five rebounds.

Ponderosa is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15. As for Heritage, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11.

Ponderosa and Heritage could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Ponderosa (ranked 164th) will meet Chaparral (ranked third) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Heritage will take on Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 49 places (59 vs. 10).
