Football Recap: Newtown Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Newtown unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 30-10 to the New Canaan Rams on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Nighthawks of the 35-20 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Marcus Gerace threw for 269 yards and one TD. Grady Marks was his top target, picking up 82 receiving yards.

A big part of New Canaan's win came down to the chemistry between Maddox Hoffman and his top target Andrew Esposito. Hoffman threw for 160 yards and one touchdown while Esposito gained 51 total yards and three touchdowns.

Newtown will head out to take on New Milford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Nighthawks' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for New Canaan, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Ridgefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
