Soccer Game Preview: Cienega vs. Catalina Foothills

The Cienega Bobcats will square off against the Catalina Foothills Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Cienega fought the good fight in their overtime game against Buena on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colts by a score of 3-2. The Bobcats' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Catalina Foothills came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 goals) and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Rams onto the board and left with a 7-0 victory. Give the Falcons' defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Their offense was hitting Maricopa from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Kailyn O'Connell led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Catalina Foothills pushed their record up to 7-2-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those four matchups. As for Cienega, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.

Cienega beat Catalina Foothills 2-0 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will Cienega repeat their success, or does Catalina Foothills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
