Softball Recap: Rincon/University Triumphs

Rincon/University took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Vista Grande, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rincon/University Rangers had just enough and edged out the Vista Grande Spartans 4-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rangers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Marciella Castillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Rincon/University saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Violetta Fregosso, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Alexa Duron also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Vista Grande, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Rincon/University will host Palo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Vista Grande, they are taking a road trip to challenge Flowing Wells at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Flowing Wells has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something Vista Grande will no doubt try to take advantage of.
