Baseball Recap: Dawson-Bryant's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Dawson-Bryant can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Rock Hill Redmen 10-9. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Derek Bloomfield was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Braden Schug was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Dawson-Bryant: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-11 otherwise. Leland McKnight was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Dawson-Bryant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Dawson-Bryant's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Rock Hill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
