Baseball Game Preview: Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs vs. Lafayette Generals

Paul Laurence Dunbar hasn't had much luck against Lafayette recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will take on the Generals at 6:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Paul Laurence Dunbar nor DeSales made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Bulldogs came up short against the Colts, falling 8-2. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Louie Desalvo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Paul Laurence Dunbar saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooks White, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Steven Estepp also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Lafayette's offense. They fell just short of Bryan Station by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. Generals fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Defenders since on Thursday.

Paul Laurence Dunbar's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Lafayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9-1.

Paul Laurence Dunbar couldn't quite get it done against Lafayette when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
