Baseball Recap: Eastmark Has No Trouble Against Combs

Eastmark's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Combs Coyotes 9-3. The Firebirds haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Matthew Kee made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Keagan Heirshberg and Keanu Mortenson did most of the damage at the plate: Heirshberg scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Mortenson scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Mortenson a new career-high in doubles (two). Austin Snyder was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

Eastmark kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Eastmark's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-12. As for Combs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13-1 record this season.

Eastmark will have a chance to go back-to-back against Combs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
