Basketball Recap: Miller Takes a Loss

Miller was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gregory-Portland Wildcats. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buccaneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-44 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Miller lost, don't look at Hailey Martinez. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 16 on her way to 23 points and seven steals. That was a full 45.1% of Miller's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Julissa Ramirez was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 10 points and seven boards.

Gregory-Portland was led to victory by Bella Davis and Brittney Chapman. Davis went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 24 points and five assists, while Chapman dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most points Davis has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jariyah Whitehead, who put up six points and five boards.

Miller's defeat dropped their record down to 13-15. As for Gregory-Portland, they pushed their record up to 20-13 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Miller has already played their next game, a 44-31 win against King on the 24th. As for Gregory-Portland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-29 victory against Ray on the 24th.
